Invitation to be part of the Comprehensive plan

“The Comprehensive Plan is the framework and reference for decisions that are made by the Fluvanna Planning Commission when there are questions about zoning change applications, housing developments, etc. It is also used when determining the capital expenditure allocations during the budget process.” Douglas Miles, Fluvanna County Director of Community Development
Although it is not a binding ordinance, it is a substantial guide in making determinations about what kind of development should be occurring. It is a document that describes in detail both the uses that we make of county resources and the amenities and infrastructure that we think would improve our lives in the future. The comprehensive plan includes a land use map which indicates the main geographical areas intended for growth of higher density development and business development.
The Fluvanna County Community Development Department is continuously reevaluating the Comprehensive Plan. This department also coordinates regionally, such as with the Thomas Jefferson Planning District and surrounding counties. But input from citizens is very important to developing a long-range plan for Fluvanna.
To read the current 2015 Fluvanna Comprehensive Plan, visit the Fluvanna County website at this link There you can see the current plan as previously adopted by the Board of Supervisors. Print copies are available for review at the Fluvanna County Library or in the County Administration building in the village of Palmyra.
The Comprehensive Plan should represent the vision of the citizens who live and work here, Because of the position we are in as alumni of the Fluvanna Leadership Development Program, we are approached to assist with citizen input on the revisions of the comprehensive plan. Usually revisions to the plan are done for specific sections and not for the entire plan at once.
The current revisions under consideration are included at the Fluvanna County Draft Comprehensive Plan Compiled Plan found here. To be involved in the process of revision, please contact Douglas Miles, AICO, CZA, Director of Community Development, for upcoming opportunities. dmiles@fluvannacounty.org, (434) 591-1900 ext 1060.
